For couples seeking an intimate and adventurous way to tie the knot, planning to elope in Joshua Tree National Park offers a unique and picturesque setting. With its otherworldly landscapes, iconic Joshua trees, and breathtaking desert vistas, this national park provides a backdrop that is both romantic and unforgettable. Here’s a guide on how to plan your dream desert elopement:
- Choose Your Location: Joshua Tree National Park offers a variety of stunning locations for your elopement ceremony. A few of my favorite locations include Cap Rock and Quail Springs.
- Obtain Permits: While elopements are typically simpler to plan than traditional weddings, it’s important to obtain the necessary permits for your ceremony in the park. Visit the National Park Service website or contact the park directly to inquire about any permits or regulations for weddings and elopements. There will be a $120 fee for a ceremony permit but this does not include the entrance fee into the park which is an additional fee.
- Hire a Photographer: Capture every moment of your elopement with a talented photographer who is familiar with Joshua Tree’s unique lighting and landscape. It’s crucial that you hire someone that is familiar with the park and it’s regulations. Feel free to reach out if you’re still on the search for a photographer.
- Consider Logistics: Since eloping often means forgoing the traditional wedding venue, consider the logistics of your ceremony. Plan transportation to and from the park, arrange accommodations for before and after your elopement, and pack essentials like water, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes for exploring the desert terrain. It’s a fun addition to add a classic car to your day.
- Personalize Your Ceremony: While eloping is inherently intimate, consider incorporating personal touches into your ceremony to make it truly memorable. Write your own vows, exchange rings in a meaningful location, or include rituals that hold significance for you as a couple.
- Celebrate Afterwards: After you’ve exchanged vows against the backdrop of Joshua Tree’s natural beauty, take time to celebrate your union. Whether you enjoy a romantic dinner under the stars or embark on a desert adventure together, savor the moment and create memories that will last a lifetime. Some of my favorite things to visit in the area is Pioneer town, a hike around Barker Dam, and a sunset viewing at Key’s View.
Eloping in Joshua Tree National Park offers couples a one-of-a-kind wedding experience surrounded by the beauty of the desert landscape. Joshua Tree is not only unique to the planet but is also a very special place to elope.
